California Penal Code §115
California Penal Code §115 makes it illegal to file, register, or record any false or forged document with the state. The best course of action would be to only use real, up-to-date, and accurate information on any official documentation.
§115 (a) Every person who knowingly procures or offers any false or forged instrument to be filed, registered, or recorded in any public office within this state, which instrument, if genuine, might be filed, registered, or recorded under any law of this state or of the United States, is guilty of a felony.
For example:
- Forging a deed to a house, and attempting to record the deed
- Filing a form with fake names at the DMV
California Penal Code §115 is a felony.
The punishment is up to 3 years of jail or prison and / or a maximum of$10,000 in fines.
